Features
Powerful AntiVirus
The AntiVirus monitor of eScan constantly keeps vigil on every file inside the computer as well as files trying to enter the system via email, removable disks, web downloads and software vulnerabilities. Its large malware database contains all viruses appeared so far and their variants, while it's also updated continuously against new and emerging threats.
The AntiVirus Monitor scans not only singular files but also compound files such as archives and self-extractors like ZIP, CAB, RAR and ACE. Many malware writers today pack their harmful code with UPX and archives so that they go undetected during malware scanning. eScan provides you the power stop such files from entering your computer.
Advanced Quarantining Options and Detailed Logs eScan Monitor maintains a detailed log of all the files that have been tagged as infected. Also the monitor maintains a statistics of all the actions taken, which can be easily accessed in the application interface. A user can even choose to keep a backup of all the files in a Quarantine folder, where the files are encrypted and content modified to make them harmless. Scheduled Scanning eScan allows you to set a schedule to begin auto scanning of your whole system or selected files and folders. You can specify actions to be taken on infected files: Quarantine, Delete or Disinfect. You can begin scanning immediately or select the period like hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or at system start up, while also specifying the starting time.
AntiSpam and Content Scanning
The Spam Control module of eScan uses a combination of technologies like email Header Tests, X-Spam Rules Check, Sender Policy Framework (SPF), RBL check, SURBL Check and Non Intrusive Learning Patterns (NILP). You can specify certain words or phrases so that mails with such words either in the subject, header or body will be identified and subsequently quarantined or deleted.
eMail Content Scanning
This feature allows you to control the content in emails and block spam. You can specify certain words or phrases so that mails with such words either in the subject, header or body will be identified and subsequently quarantined or deleted. You can also create a disclaimer notice which can be sent in all outgoing and incoming mails. Non Intrusive Learning Patterns (NILP) This is a revolutionary technology from MicroWorld that works on the principles of Artificial Intelligence to create an adaptive mechanism in Spam and Phishing Control. This technology can analyze each email according to the Behavioral Patterns of the user and can take an informed decision there after. NILP has the capability to learn on its own and can also incorporate regular research feeds from the MicroWorld Server. email Header Tests MailScan checks the validity of all the headers in the mail and if any of the headers are found to be invalid, the mail will be considered as Spam. X-Spam Rules Check X-Spam Rules are Rules that describe certain characteristics of a mail and they are matched against the mail header, body and attachment to generate a score for each mail. If the score crosses a threshold value, then the mail is considered a Spam. Sender Policy Framework (SPF) Sender Policy Framework is a world standard that helps to prevent forgery of sender address and is a powerful mechanism to stop Phishing mails. SURBL Check Unlike normal RBLs, SURBL Check works by scanning for the presence of names or URLs of Spam websites in the message body. Real-time Black List (RBL) RBL is a DNS Server that lists IP Addresses of known Spam sending machines. If the contacting IP is found to be in one of the blacklisted categories, the connection is terminated. Web Scan and Parental Control eScan gives you highly advanced features for blocking non-business, offensive and pornographic content accessed by employees in organizations, based on words and phrases appearing in such websites. Sophisticated algorithms are employed to avoid any false positives in this process. The same feature is used for advanced Parental Control for safeguarding kids from sleazy content, the home user versions of eScan.
Real time website scanning and blocking
eScan scans websites in real time. When words related to pornography, gambling or other subject that you specify are detected in a website, the site is blocked and a message is displayed giving reasons for blocking the site. Block web sites based on predefined pornographic keywords eScan has parental control feature that allow you to control access to web sites You can specify words and phrases like xxx, porn, adults only, poker, etc. that occur in porn and gambling sites. If the accessed site contains such words, it is blocked and not allowed to display on your system. The following points are explained. Category: Category carries related group of web sites Access to all web sites that are defined in a category can be either blocked or allowed. For e.g. the category 'Pornography' will have web sites related to porn. You can block or allow access to sites that occur in this category. Categories like pornography and gambling have been created with a block status. You can create user defined categories. The next step is adding words related to the category. Words/Phrases: You can add to the list of words that relate to a category. For e.g. for porn category, you can add words like babes, xxx, etc. If the category Pornography is blocked then eScan blocks any site that has words like babes, xxx, etc. Everyday about 500 sites related to porn are added to the Internet. To avoid detection, some of the sites are also renamed. This feature ensures that when a site with such words in the content, keywords, script and tags occurs, access to the site is automatically blocked even though it has been renamed. Site Names: Some well-known sites like playboy, hustler, etc. do not change names. You can specify such sites and access to them is blocked outright. ![]() The feature is found in eScan Content Administrator > Webpage Scanning > Filter Categories (Frame) The features are marked in red in the following screen. Block websites using IP Address Websites can be accessed by entering their IP (Internet Protocol) number. The software should be able to translate the IP number to its web site name and block access if it contains restricted words or is on the banned list. For e.g. www.sex-circus.com can be accessed through its IP, http://198.63.10.71 when you use common Content Security software. Software's like eScan are able to translate the IP to its URL and block it. Block PopUp ads/Java applets/Scripts/Cookies/Content like images, movies, video, and application eScan allows system administrators to block images, applications, audio and video files, popup ads, cookies, etc. from an accessed web site. The feature is found in eScan Content Administrator > Webpage Scanning > Advanced (Button) Set Restricted Words threshold level Restricted words like babe, sex, etc. can be found in legitimate sites. Refer to the screen shown below. The slider bar allows you to set the threshold value for restricted words. The bar is by default set at value 3. In a web site, if any three words from the list appear as a combination, for more times than set in the threshold value, the site is blocked. This ensures that legitimate sites are displayed and only sites related to porn are blocked. The feature is found in eScan Content Administrator > Webpage Scanning > Advanced (Button) eScan Management Console eScan Management Console functions as a centralized server that allows you to remote install the software, distribute updates and upgrades to all machines in your network and enforce Integrated Security Policies for the entire organization. Remote Installation allows you to simultaneously install eScan on multiple clients or workstations in your network, from a single machine. Remote installation runs in the background and the normal activity on a workstation can continue without interruption. This saves time, labor and ensures that no machine is 'missed'. To install the software on one machine, takes about three to four minutes. If you had to install on 100 machines, it would take about 400 minutes. Add to this work stoppage for the workstations, need for CD ROM drive on individual workstations, etc. eServ avoids all these costs.
You must first install eScan as a Server on one machine. This is called as the central server. The central server does not require any special 'server hardware configurations' but can be any convenient machine. Further remote installations on clients are done using this machine. The reverse process, remote uninstall is also supported. Deploy Upgrades: Upgrades are new version or patches of the software or new builds, released by MicroWorld. Upgrade may carry new features or functions. eScan allows you to deploy Upgrades and Updates to all machines in the network from a single server. Upgrades and Updates can be deployed simultaneously on all clients. Obtain detailed Client Information eServ allow you to view detailed information of eScan clients. You can view details of eScan version currently running, if updates and upgrades are downloaded, etc. Details of eScan activity running on the network are also displayed.
